Workers benefit from apprenticeships by receiving a skills-based education that prepares them for good-paying jobs. Texas Works Paths to Success graduates, HHSC staff and Deputy Executive Commissioner of Access and Eligibility Services Wayne Salter will be attending the ceremony. Apprenticeships combine paid on-the-job training with classroom instruction to prepare workers for highly-skilled careers. “Our goal is to better the lives of Texans, and this groundbreaking program does that.” It is designed to assist individuals in improving their overall quality of life through economic self-sufficiency,” said Wayne Salter, HHSC deputy executive commissioner of Access and Eligibility Services. “The Texas Works Paths to Success program is not just about helping individuals find work. Participants are guaranteed employment with the agency after they successfully complete the program and graduate high school. Launched in 2020, the Texas Works Paths to Success program offers job training to Houston-area high school seniors. The TWPS graduates will begin their careers at HHSC as Texas Works advisors, helping people access Medicaid, Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) and the Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) program. AUSTIN – High school seniors who have completed the Texas Health and Human Services Commission’s (HHSC) Texas Works Paths to Success (TWPS) program will be recognized at the Houston Independent School District’s Career and Military Signing Day on Thursday, May 18.
